Nvidia introduced its new Cosmos 3 Edge AI model on Thursday during a visit to Tokyo, expanding the company's physical AI ecosystem in Japan through new partnerships with local industrial giants. Cosmos 3 Edge is a 4-billion-parameter world model built on Nvidia's Nemotron platform, designed to help robots and vision AI agents perceive their surroundings, reason in real time and generate actions on Nvidia edge computers.
Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang joined Ryosei Akazawa, Japan's Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry, as the country launched a government-backed physical AI initiative. "The next frontier of AI is in the physical world, and this is a once-in-a-generation opportunity for Japan," Huang said.
A Coalition of Japanese Manufacturers
Nvidia announced new partnerships with Fujitsu, Hitachi and Kawasaki Heavy Industries, and said it will work with Fanuc and Yaskawa Electric to further develop robotics and industrial AI technology. The initiative builds on Nvidia's earlier collaborations with Japanese firms across manufacturing and automation.
Expanding Into Healthcare
Nvidia also highlighted the continued expansion of Tokyo-1, an AI drug discovery consortium operated by Xeureka, a subsidiary of trading house Mitsui, which is powered by Nvidia's BioNeMo Agent Toolkit. The announcements come as chip demand tied to artificial intelligence continues to surge worldwide, with major manufacturers racing to secure computing capacity for the next generation of AI applications.
