Nationwide Campaign Offers Black Point Relief for Safe Driving
The UAE Ministry of Interior is running a nationwide road safety campaign, Accident-Free Day, on August 31, offering motorists the chance to have four black points removed from their driving record. Registration opened on August 17 through the ministry's online platform, where drivers sign a pledge to follow specific road safety rules for the day.
To take part, motorists must verify their identity using their Emirates ID and commit to respecting speed limits, maintaining a safe following distance, wearing seatbelts, avoiding mobile phone use while driving, and giving way to emergency vehicles. The ministry said it will deduct four black points from the records of successful participants on September 25.
Campaign Timed to Coincide With Start of School Year
Authorities scheduled the initiative for the first day of the new academic year, when school traffic significantly increases vehicle volumes on UAE roads. Officials said the timing is intended to reinforce safe driving habits during one of the busiest periods on the roads.
The black points system is used across the UAE to track traffic violations, with accumulated points triggering penalties including fines, licence suspension or vehicle impoundment. Accident-Free Day is among several road safety initiatives the ministry runs throughout the year to encourage compliance with traffic laws.
