Dh3 Electric Buses Replace RTA Service Across JLT
Dubai master developer DMCC has launched JLT Link, described as the city's first fully electric community bus service, with operations beginning on August 1 across Jumeirah Lakes Towers (JLT) and Uptown Dubai. The service replaces the existing RTA bus operation in the area with no interruption to the current passenger schedule, and each ride costs a flat Dh3 fare paid through the JLT Link app using a QR code, with no advance booking required.
The fleet is made up of fully electric buses in a mix of 16-, 23- and 31-seat configurations, all featuring low-floor access and dedicated space for wheelchair users. Passengers board using a QR pass, and the service covers 18 stops across JLT and Uptown Dubai, connecting to both DMCC Metro Station and Sobha Realty Metro Station so riders can transfer onto the Dubai Metro Red Line.
Two Routes Aim to Cut Car Trips and Emissions
JLT Link operates on two circular routes through the JLT district plus a separate link to Uptown Dubai. Loop 1 covers clusters A to N on the western side of JLT and connects to DMCC Metro Station, while Loop 2 covers clusters O to Z on the eastern side and connects to Sobha Realty Metro Station, with both loops running at roughly 20-minute intervals. Buses operate from 6.30am to 9.30pm Monday to Saturday and from 9.30am to 12.30am on Sundays, according to DMCC.
Ahmed Bin Sulayem, Executive Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of DMCC, said JLT Link represents "a further investment in the infrastructure that underpins our long-term vision for JLT and Uptown Dubai as one integrated destination," adding that the fully electric fleet and direct metro connections are designed to create "a more connected, sustainable and convenient urban experience." DMCC said the zero-emission buses build on other environmental initiatives in the district, including solar-powered infrastructure and community recycling facilities, and align with Dubai's Net Zero 2050 goals by giving residents an alternative to short car trips within the neighbourhood.
