Extreme Summer Heatwaves Triggered
According to the NCM, the country is experiencing a sharp heat spike with temperatures forecast to reach between 42°C and 47°C across inland regions. Coastal areas and islands can expect maximum temperatures ranging from 36°C to 42°C, while mountainous regions will see slightly lower thresholds between 32°C and 38°C. This rapid increase marks the onset of the traditional "Al Qayz" season, driven by a surface low-pressure system extending from the east.
Dust Storms and Airspace Warnings
In addition to the heat, strengthening northwesterly winds are expected to significantly affect daily commuting. Wind speeds are forecast to hit up to 40km/h, causing widespread blowing dust and sandstorms that will reduce horizontal visibility, particularly during the daytime in open or exposed areas. Authorities are advising motorists and residents to drive with extreme caution, limit outdoor dust exposure, and keep windows securely shut.
Rough Marine Conditions and Coastal Fog
The NCM has also issued specific alerts for maritime activities and coastal living:
The Arabian Gulf: Sea conditions are forecast to become rough at times, especially during the night, due to strong wind gusts. Conversely, the Oman Sea is expected to remain relatively slight to moderate.
High Humidity and Morning Mist: Humidity levels are predicted to spike overnight, potentially reaching up to 90 percent along coastal zones. This atmospheric moisture increases the probability of dense mist or fog formation during the early morning hours, further complicating early commutes.
Long-term meteorological indicators, including the El Niño Southern Oscillation monitoring, suggest that residents should prepare for predominantly hot, dry, and dusty cycles to dominate the region as the summer season intensifies.
